The smoke was heavy and stifling. Tears
stained her face and bare feet as she frantically searched for
signs of something familiar. Nothing.
She inhaled deeply. And of course immediately
regretted it. She coughed for the next several minuets, trying
desperately to just catch her breath. Anxious and weak she turned
to watch in dismay as her home was being destroyed. Without thought
or motive, she turned her back to the crumbling ruins and ran
with certain assurance of…well certain that she was indeed running.
Struggling to regain her sense of direction,
Danciy ran into the woods not knowing where or how far she was
going. Over felled trees, brambles and small creeks she frantically
continued until luck brought her to a small town. A small merchant
town would allow for Danciy's respite. She headed directly to
the inn and requested a room She knew she must be a sight and
blushed deep red because of her appearance. The innkeeper gave
her a key and told her where she could find some amenities and
she began to head to her room.
She bumped into a gentleman, she turned
away quickly as she said "pardon me." He smiled, and walked away.
Her dreams. She was now even more confused and scared. This was
the first time she had seen one of the strangers in her Dreams,
in person.
Her life, she could think of no life she
had now. Her life, family, friends, were all gone. Too much reflection
and the day's events brought Danciy quick, sound sleep.
Suddenly, she became aware of a woman
standing near her with a baby in her arms. For a moment she thought
it must be her mother, but somehow she knew it wasn’t. She saw
no reason to be frightened. Danciy sat up straight on her bed
as the lady began to approach her. She gently smiled at Danciy
and extended her hand toward her. Danciy just stared at her.
Confused, she looked around and remembered
where she was, or rather was not. Her mother, father, and home
-- everything gone.
Pulling her hand back and crossing her
arms across her chest she looked up at the strange lady. A beautiful
woman draped in a lush velvet purple cloak, which hung loosely
about her shoulders, awed Danciy. She observed the lady's sparkling
clear eyes, which almost exactly matched the cloak and oddly enough,
Danciy's own eyes.
Danciy opened her mouth to, well she wasn't
real sure what she had planned to say or shout, but before she
could decide, the woman shushed her by placing her finger gently
over Danciy's mouth. "I will not harm you child. I have come to
help you."
Danciy felt mystified. She wrinkled her
nose in response to the awfully strong fragrances that filled
the air upon the lady's arrival. She was able to get a quick glimpse
of a rather odd dagger suspended from her belt. Convincing herself
the serpent-like dagger writhed in its case, she quickly turned
her head back up toward the enchanting woman.
"Danciy, I am sorry for your lose. I do
not want you to fear your life or future. I am named, Kaliy, You
have an ache in your heart, which will burn until you understand
the revenge you so desperately seek. I, my child, plan to see
that your life follows the will of the Serpent and you benefit
and grow to the fullest potential of your strong, loyal soul.
With this I pledge my strengths to protect and guide you throughout
your existence."
As Kaliy touched Danciy's temple electricity
pulsed through Danciy's mind and body. She could not get enough
of the feeling. Her senses were riper than she had ever thought
possible. She loved being in this place. Many of her dreams began
passing through her mind and they all began to make more sense.
She saw that same gentleman once again and knew she must seek
him out.
The Light she would not follow. The protection
of the greatest gods and Kingdoms in this great place had no effect
or protection for her family. The evil, which lurks the earth,
seems at times to be more honest than most distinguished Kings.
Danciy no longer felt alone, she knew
she had something that was hers. She new she had a gift that would
spread across these lands until people understood honor and loyalty
instead of redundancy or evilness. She would live her life not
serving good or bad. If the Gods did not protect the innocent
from the Evils, then why would there be need for either? For the
rest of her life, Danciy would be the unsoiled of Light and Dark.
She would be a Silver Serpent.
Danciy opened her eyes and Kaliy smiled
gently at her She placed inside her palm a white, slender ring
in the shape of a silver serpent entwined around a black-circle
of stones; the serpent appeared to be eating its own tail. The
serpent was adorned with a green stone eye, which seemed to wink
at you if rubbed. There was something engraved inside the ring:
Most of it was a blur, but you could make out the name Danciy
Dynae.
The ring was beautiful, mystical and symbolized
greatness. Kaliy looked seriously at Danciy and said to her "Danciy,
you will bear this ring and its powers with you always. It will
help protect you from unknown evils and heighten your senses."
Wear and cherish it and believe in your honor, loyalty and family.
Take this child and treat her as your own. You will seek out Lord
Druez and together your future will be clear.
She was certain of where her path lead:
A new life, a new family.
Danciy stroked her ring with her thumb
and she felt powerful and strong. She glanced down to the bundle
in her arms and wondered who and what she was.
